When it comes to sneakers, I'm a little more on the conservative side, meaning I only own a few pairs. To be perfectly honest, I mostly wore sneakers as a kid, but quickly found myself uninterested as a teen. I did however wear the crap out of two pairs: my Converses with floral laces, and blue old school Vans, but mostly the latter. I wore my Vans everywhere! Passover ceremonies (yes, with a dress), to work (I worked at a sandwich shop and got hot sauce all over them), to school, you name it! They have always had a place in my heart because of the many adventures we went on together. A year ago, I decided to get a new pair because we have to move on eventually, and found a pair that matched my "now." Best part, they're pale pink!!
When Vans began it's business in the sixties in Anaheim, the hope was to sell boat shoes at the right fit, but they never thought skaters would find an interest. People started asking for custom fabrics on their shoes, and kids began drawing all over the plain decks. The most common drawn design: checkered. Over time, Vans began to transform their boat shoe, and created high-tops for skaters, that couldn't seem to keep their hands off of them ("Off the wall" was added on the label to identify the ones that were for skaters). Now, Vans are created in so many designs and colors and are still loved by many, myself included! I clearly do NOT skate (the last time I tried, I was about 9 and knew it wasn't for me when I hurt my bum), but the comfort I find in these sneakers is unbeatable. They last forever, and how can you not like canvas? I seriously wear them all the time; with a dress, jeans and my favorite sweater. I love them so much, I bought my niece a matching pair!
